The modern Analusian horse is one of the purest and oldest breeds or strains in the world. In the Middle Ages was the Spanish horse one of the most noble, most handsome, the bravest and worthy of kings horse. Iberia was horse-breeding area during its time as Roman province, when Arab, Barb and other Oriental strains were brought there and many thousands years before it contained horses of typical Spanish or Iberian Type (the Lusitano, the Carthusian, The Alter Real, the Castilian, the Extremeno and the Zapatero).
The purebred Spanish horse or Pura Raza Espanola are high-headed, have convex profile and are compact and strong build. They are proud and gentile. They were very good war horses. Today’s Andalusian is a major world breed and is very high prized in Spain, especially in Andalucía.
Andalusian horse is pride, courage and spirit combined with docility and affection toward people. Andalusian is also suitable for children riding. Although his mild character they also possess all the fire and presence demanded for a display or parade.
Andalusian of more modern type are lighter and with longer legs, but still showing that old nobility which made the breed such a huge favorite in the bullrings and classical ridding.
Andalusians horses are in average 160 cm tall. Their mane and tail are luxuriant, often wavy. They are gray, bay, black, an auburn-brown shade, chestnuts and roans. They have powerful neck and broad, deep chest.
